Fantasy Football Commissioner

Many are surprised to hear that fantasy football leagues date back to 1963. The world’s first league was called the Greater Oakland Professional Pigskin Prognosticators League (GOPPPL). Hall of Fame quarterback and placekicker George Blanda was the first ever selection in that fantasy draft.

Fast forward to 2018 where fantasy football averages over 59 million users and generates over $7 billion annually according to the Fantasy Sports Trade Association.

I have been participating in fantasy football leagues since 1997. I remember my first league that I joined was with my close friend Scott. His father had a league through his work and he allowed us to draft and own a team together. At the time, we were only in middle school and knew very little about what we were getting ourselves into.

I remember going to the draft and having our eyes set on drafting Terrell Davis or Barry Sanders. We knew that adding one of those two players to our team would almost guarantee us a spot in the league championship. After the draft, I was hooked.

In 2003, while in college, I decided to create a 12 person fantasy league that consisted of friends from my childhood and college.

Fifteen years later, the league has evolved into one of the best leagues that I have ever been involved in.

It is very rare that someone leaves our league because they know that it will be almost impossible to get back in. There is a waiting list to join.

Being a commissioner of a successful fantasy league is not easy. One must possess leadership and organizational skills. Settling disagreements can be time consuming and stressful especially when money and bragging rights are on the line.

What makes our league stand out is the custom handbook that I have created over the years and the communication that I provide with all of the league owners throughout the year.

This helps to minimize confusion or arguments. Everyone knows what is expected.

When I searched on the Internet, I could not find a dedicated website that helps fantasy football commissioners. The lack of assistance to the most important position held in a fantasy football league led me to create this product. I am passionate about fantasy football and the success of fantasy leagues.

"I’ve always known about this one league called Unnecessary Roughness where my buddy Warren was the Commissioner. I could never join because there was a waiting list for years. I was eventually invited to join several years later. I’ve participated in multiple fantasy leagues over the years. Warren’s league is by far the most organized and progressive league around. His commitment to detail is unmatched. He’s obsessively pursuing ways to enhance the league through keeper rules, waiver bidding, and point scoring. We receive a 40-page manual at beginning of the season which serves as the Holy Grail for the owners in the league. Warren’s dedication to create the best fantasy football experience for us is something I truly cherish and respect. Warren has truly mastered the art of running a fantasy football league."

"He is the best fantasy commissioner hands down. What I'm most impressed by is his organization and attention to detail. We know the schedule of events as it relates to getting the year going well in advance. We receive constant updates and reminders throughout the year. And he does an excellent job gathering feedback from all the owners in our league when making big decisions."

"I've been in the league since the first season 15 years ago. The league gets better every year because the commissioner works nonstop to make the league fair and competitive. With my schedule going through undergrad, med school, residency, and fellowship I really needed the commissioner to keep the league organized and entertaining. He certainly has done that. If it wasn't for his dedication, I would not still be enjoying fantasy football every week. "

"Fantasy football leagues are a great challenge. You have multiple interests, time zones, personalities, and needs. However, fantasy football leagues are also a great unifier. Fostering connections, camaraderie, and competition amongst friends. Warren has done a phenomenal job balancing the challenges and driving unity for our fantasy football league for the last 15 years. He never puts himself above the league and the consistency, thoroughness, and professionalism of his communications/efforts as commissioner facilitates ease of participation for all parties involved."

"A commissioner by definition is “a person appointed to a role on or by a commission”. Warren takes this role so seriously and is the best without a doubt. I have been in this league since 2003, and average 3-5 leagues per year and I can honestly say there isn’t a more well run league. Anytime you have 10-14 personalities, opinions, and there is money involved, emotions can run high but Warren always ensures people are prepared for each and every season and he ensures every concern is dealt with immediately. There is a reason attrition is so low and that is because of him. He takes this job so seriously and our league is better because of him!"

"The ability for a fantasy football league to function with high integrity and great competition is due to the time  and effort dispersed by Commissioner Woodruff. Without knowing and seeing every fantasy league that exists I can still say with confidence that this league is one of the most organized and progressive leagues out there. This league speaks volume to Warren's meticulous nature and ability to unite and create long lasting friendships. Keep in mind that time, effort and the detriment of his team has sometimes been compromised for the well being of the league. Keep up the good work."
